Russian delegation in Syria to inspect reality of events on ground

DAMASCUS– Former Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Sergei Ordzhonikidze, heading a delegation of the Public Chamber at the Russian Federation to Syria, said that the visit aimed at inspecting the reality of situation in Syria and conveying it to the public opinion and the Russian leadership.
Meeting Speaker of People's Assembly Mohammad, Jihad al-Laham, Ordzhonikidze stressed Russia's interest in what is taking place in Syria due to its influence in the regional and international arenas.
He reiterated Russia's support to the stability in Syria and moving ahead with reforms, in addition to encouraging dialogue and rejecting all forms of foreign interference in its internal affairs.
For his part, Speaker of the People's Assembly said that Syria is carrying out reforms on all levels according to timetables and standards that fit its available capabilities, indicating to the economic pressure and sanctions that target the livelihood of the Syrian citizen.
He added that Syria is facing a conspiracy that aimed to undermine its security and stability and divert it from its stances through a political, media and economic war led by the U.S. administration, the West and their tools under the name of freedom and democracy.
Laham stressed that there are armed terrorist and takfiri groups from different nationalities, backed up by regional parties to commit their criminal, terrorist and sabotage acts against safe citizens.
He added that the attacks against the Syrian media which convey the truth aimed at silencing the voice of right in the interest of other instigative media.
Laham hailed the historic Syrian-Russian relations, appreciating Russia's stances in support of Syria which are based on the UN Charter and the international law.
The Russian delegation was briefed on the activities and numbers of armed terrorist groups in the country and the means adopted to face the misleading media campaign launched against Syria.
