Child fantasy to open 2012 Cannes film festival
Starring Bruce Willis and Bill Murray, Anderson's film will open the 65th edition Cannes film festival on May 16.
Renowned Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami’s latest production, Like Someone in Love, is slated to compete at this year’s festival.
The filmmaker and screenwriter Shahram Alidi is the other Iranian representative who has been invited to participate in the 2012 Cinémas Du Monde Pavilion at Cannes festival for his feature-length movie A Cemetery Which Breeds Grapes Every Morning.
Previous winners of the coveted Palme d'Or prize for best film are Austrian Michael Haneke’s Amour (Love), Briton Ken Loach’s The Angels' Share and Romanian Cristian Mungiu’s Beyond the Hills.
Global filmmaking heavyweights such as Bernardo Bertolucci, Jean Eustache, Otar Iosseliani, Ken Loach, Wong Kar Wai, Jacques Audiard and Arnaud Desplechin will be among the hosts of the event’s opening ceremony this year.
Italian film director Nanni Moretti has been announced as the president of the Jury for the main competition section and British actor Tim Roth will lead the Jury of the Un Certain Regard section.
The 65th annual Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 16 to May 27, 2012.
